        At 5 PM on May 14, President WU Pute announced, in front of a video camera, to representatives of domestic and foreign universities that The SCO Agriculture Universities Alliance was formally established! On the same day, more than 60 representatives of 19 universities and organizations from eight countries including China and Russia gathered online to sign the letter of intent to jointly initiate the establishment of the "Agricultural Colleges and Universities Alliance of SCO Member States".

       Vice President LUOJun presided over the Inaugural Meeting. WU Pute, the president of NWAFU, LIUHong, chairman of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization University Chinese Project School President Committee, and the president of Dalian University of Foreign Languages, LIU Baoping, deputy director of the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education, and LIU Tianxiong, deputy secretary of the Party Working Committee of Yangling Demonstration Zone, delivered speeches successively.

       In the speech, WU Pute said that most of the member states of the SCO are landlocked country and contiguous to China. The climate conditions, ecological environment, and the adaptability of animals and plants are quite similar. In responding to food security and modern agriculture cooperation in arid and semi-arid regions, member countries maintain the common goals for cooperation, and the prospects for cooperation are broad. On October 22, 2020, in order to implement the initiative of President XI Jinping at the 19th session of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the SCO Agricultural Technology Exchange and Training Demonstration Base was inaugurated in the Yangling Demonstration Zone where the NWAFU is located. It has opened the prelude to the agricultural cooperation among the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

      WU Pute said that as the agricultural universities of the member states of the SCO, the member units of the alliance undertake the important mission of promoting the sustainable development of agriculture in the member states. It is hoped that with the platform of the Aliiance, all member units shall deepen international scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation, strengthen cooperation with local governments and enterprises, and work harder on the integration of production, education, research and application to serve the needs of regional economic and social development. Eventually, while achieving its own development, it will benefit more countries and people, and promote balanced development on a global scale.

       Wu Putte emphasized that as the first initiator of the alliance, the school will effectively assume the various responsibilities assigned by the alliance, establish normalized and institutionalized exchanges, build a sharing platform for international cooperation and exchange of agricultural talents, and actively share China’s solutions with member states. The successful experience of "agriculture, rural areas and farmers" has contributed to the improvement of the modern agricultural development level of all member countries.

      Representatives of nine domestic universities and ten foreign universities and organizations gave keynote exchange speeches at the inaugural meeting on "Agricultural Higher Education Cooperation within the SCO Framework".

   Shanghai Cooperation Organization University was established in 2007 on the initiative of Vladimir Putin, the president at the time. It has currently absorbed 82 colleges and universities from the five member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, covering seven professional directions including regional science, ecology, energy science, IT technology, nanotechnology, Economics and Pedagogy. On June 30 last year, the SCO University Coordination Committee meeting discussed and agreed to increase the direction of modern agriculture, and NWAFU shall take the lead in the construction.
